Born 30 August 1844 at Ball's Pond, Islington, England; emigrated to South Australia in September 1859 aboard the Alma.
He was married to Mary Anne Long on 14 June 1882 (by the Rev. William Woolls) in Richamond, New South Wales.
He died on 19 April 1933 in Lithgow, New South Wales.
William Harry (or Henry) Tietkens accompanied Ernest Giles on an expedition to Central Australia in 1873 and again in 1875 on a journey from Beltana, South Australia to Perth. He later joined the New South Wales Department of Lands as a surveyor in 1891.
