Meney, Kathy A. (fl. 1990s-2020s)She was born and educated in Western Australia, completing a BA in Biology and Economics at
Curtin University followed by a PhD in Botany at The University of Western Australia (1991-1994).
She has specialized
in the autecology of monocotyledons (especially Restionaceae), particularly in relation to their regeneration
biology and propagation.
She came to Kings Park as a postgraduate student and become a Research Scientist (1993-1998) following the completion of her PhD on the ecology of Restionaceae
and Cyperaceae.
She published a major book with John Pate (UWA), 'Australian rushes: biology, identification and conservation
of Restionaceae and allied families',
and a range of research papers on Restionaceae and Cyperaceae while at Kings Park.
She has also published on reproductive biology; propagation and
restoration; growth and nutrition; morphology and
anatomy; conservation and taxonomy.
She later established the firm 'Regeneration Technology Pty Ltd' where she was a co-director and principal consultant.
She then became Director of 'Syrinx Environmental' which she founded in 2000, and of several spin-out companies she established with colleagues to facilitate commercialization and scaling of various innovative products for positive impact (NaturaTech, Catalyst Sustainability Tools, AusTas Innovation).
Meney is honoured in the name of the the rust fungus
Restiosporium meneyae Vanky.
