Gillison, Andrew Napier (Andy)   (fl. 1950s - 2000s)

He appears to have gone to school in Innisfail, Queensland, according to the Evening Advocate local newspaper reporting in October 1948 on the 'Fairyland Fancy Dress Ball at East Innisfail School', the 'Best Dressed Boy, 11 years and over', was Andy Gillison, as an "Indian".

He was at Thornburgh and Blackheath Colleges (Qld) when he passed his 'Junior Examination' with results published in January 1954.

PNG

He started with PNG Dept of Forests on 25 August 1957 as Ecologist Class 1 based at Lae, PNG.

On 6 July 1967 he was promoted to Forest Officer Class 3, (salary $3,525-$3,875).

In 1967 he was teaching botany at the Forestry School, Bulolo, PNG.
He was also working on Melanesian members of the genus Diospyros.

Australia, CSIRO

From January 1972 - September 1994 he worked for CSIRO Division of Land use Research, Division of Forestry Research, Wildlife & Ecology, Canberra, as Senior Researcher.

In 1981 he undertook a trip in conjunction with the Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition to Macquarie Island.

Indonesia

From April 1994 - April 1998 he worked for the Center for International Forestry Research, Forests and Environment Programme Sindangbarang, Indonesia, as Senior Researcher, looking at 'Sustainable biodiversity management, rapid survey methodology'.

His research has been highly influential in assessing plant functional types, ecosystem diversity, and tropical savanna systems across the Australasian and Indo-Pacitic regions.

He has authored numerous studies concerning rapid, low-cost biodiversity assessment techniques and the impact of cropping methods on agroecosystems.
